Arrival Guide
Arriving by Private Taxi:
A private taxi from Guatemala City or Antigua costs about Q700 (it can fluctuate by driver or number of people). Once you book your stay with us, we can send you trusted taxi contacts who can bring you directly to the property.
We are located about 4 hours from Guatemala City and about 3.5 hours from Antigua.
Arriving by shuttle:
You can take a shuttle from the airport or Antigua directly to Panajachel, a town across the lake (Q225 and ~3 hours). We suggest using Xocomil agency — you can message them on WhatsApp to coordinate your ride at +502 4937 2368.
Once the shuttle drops you in Panajachel, you’ll need to take a public boat in the direction of Tzununá. Note: Boats leave every 10-15 minutes, and the last boat leaves at 7pm! The boat trip costs Q25 and is about 20-30 minutes.
Once you arrive at the Tzununá dock, you can catch a tuk-tuk; ask them to take you to Casa Awänímä (ah-wah-nee-mah). It should cost no more than Q10 per person. Some drivers will try to charge you more. If someone is giving you a hard time, feel free to call us and we can try to help. The drive up to the property is about 5 minutes.
Arriving by car:
It is not necessary to have a car at Lake Atitlán — it’s easiest to get around via walking, tuk-tuks and public boats. If you do decide to rent a car, there are two routes the maps may take you: one comes through through Santa Clara, down a windy road through San Marcos La Laguna, and finally to Tzununá. Another route goes through Santa Lucia and enters from above Tzununá — this route is unpaved, quite steep and in the rainy season is very rocky, so it’s important to have an SUV/lifted car (although 4x4 is recommended!) if you come down through Santa Lucia. When in doubt, take the Santa Clara route, it’s paved all the way! Once you arrive, you can park on the street in front of the property.
Arriving by boat:
From any town on the lake, you can take a boat to the dock of Tzununá. When you arrive at the Tzununá dock, catch a tuk-tuk up to Casa Awänímä. The cost of the tuk-tuk from the dock should be Q10 per person and is about 5 minutes straight uphill.
Arriving at the front gate:
You will arrive at a large wooden gate which has a sign that says Casa Awänímä. To enter, pull the black string to the left to open the door, and someone will be inside to greet you. If you don't see anyone, ring the bell or holler!
